Get support

If you have a Medi-Cal health insurance plan and are pregnant or were pregnant in the last 12 months, you may qualify for free extra support called Enhanced Care Management (ECM). Call your plan to see if you qualify.

3 things to know about Enhanced Care Management

1 - Get one-on-one support

Enhanced Care Management offers a personal care manager—someone to connect you care by finding you an ob/gyn or doula,  schedule doctor visits from the very beginning, find a ride to appointments, deal with prescriptions, and more. They work with you and your current doctors, no matter what you need.

2 - Free help will come to you

Your care manager will meet you wherever you want, whether that’s the doctor’s office, a park, or where you’re living.

3 - Each experience is different. Support helps with what you need.

Every pregnancy experience is different. Enhanced Care Management is designed to help you with any of your health needs and can help connect you to other supports such as safe housing, food, transportation, or more. The best way to see if you qualify is to call your Medi-Cal health insurance plan.

Frequently asked questions

How can I see if I qualify for Enhanced Care Management?

All it takes is a phone call! Call the number on the back of your Medi-Cal health insurance card and ask about Enhanced Care Management (ECM). Your plan will ask some questions to see if you qualify. If you do, you’ll be connected to a personal care manager.

What should I have ready when I call?

Keep these things ready:

  • Your Medi-Cal health insurance card (easy—that’s where you’ll find the number to call)

  • A list of doctors or providers you see (like your main doctor, OB-GYN, or eye doctor)

  • A list of challenges that make taking care of your health harder (like concerns with transportation or where you’re living)

What does Enhanced Care Management help with?

Life while pregnant or the 12 months after can be really overwhelming. All the extra doctor’s visits or new medications can be a lot to handle alone. Enhanced Care Management offers free extra support to people with a Medi-Cal health insurance plan who face extra health challenges. Enhanced Care Management connects you with a personal care manager to schedule visits, find a doula, help with transportation or safe housing, and anything you need along the way.

Does Enhanced Care Management cost extra?

No! Enhanced Care Management is a completely free benefit for people who qualify through their Medi-Cal health insurance plan.

Who can refer someone for Enhanced Care Management?

Anyone. You can refer yourself, a family member, a friend—anyone who might need some extra support during pregnancy or in the first year after pregnancy.

How long does the process take?

It usually takes about 10-14 business days for your Medi-Cal health insurance plan to see if you qualify and to get set up with your care manager.
